The Idea:

"Written, produced, and directed by Gabriel Lawler, An Easy Job is a suspenseful short film that follows Ed, a man with a mysterious and deeply personal request for a hired hitman. As the story unfolds, the seemingly cold and detached hitman begins to uncover the true nature of Ed’s mission, leading to a powerful and emotional conclusion about love, loss, and the lengths we go to find peace."

With An Easy Job, I set out to tell a story with depth and resonance, proving that powerful filmmaking doesn’t require a massive budget. This short drama began as a simple concept in 2022, designed to be logistically manageable while delivering an emotionally impactful narrative. Leveraging my connections in Portland’s production community and GMS Media, I wrote, produced, and directed the film on a budget of just $4,000. From assembling a talented cast and crew to scouting locations and sourcing equipment, I took charge of every aspect of the production process, ensuring a seamless shoot in September 2022.

The work didn’t stop after production. In post, I personally handled editing, sound effects, Foley, sound design, music, graphics, and color grading to create a polished final cut that I’m proud to present.

The film is now actively airing in the film festival circuit, having been selected for the Oregon Coast Film Festival and the Royal Starr Film Festival, and earning Best Drama at the Oregon Short Film Festival in Spring 2025.

An Easy Job represents not just a creative accomplishment but a testament to my ability to bring a vision to life from start to finish.
